Grand Stretch officially launched with this speech on Friday 13th of October, 2017...
To launch Grand Stretch, Darren Yorke was thinking he'd run an evening of 30-minute taster workshops. With The IMPRO Mind-Set scheduled for January 2018, he was hoping the tasters of the philosophy, spirit and style he wanted to teach would convince enough people to fill his upcoming class. So, this "launch" was loosely pitched for late November / early December 2017.
But then, the stars aligned for An Evening of Grand Stretch.
Friday 13th gets a bad rap, but it showed us a great deal of kindness in 2017.
Denise Jones (Vancouver Theatresports™) reached out to say that she, Michael Teigen (Vancouver Theatresports™ & The Comic Strippers), Diana Frances (Vancouver Theatresports™ & The Second City), Duane Keogh (The Town Pants), and Dave Keogh (The Town Pants) would be in Dublin for one night only, on Friday 13th October 2017. Furthermore, as luck would have it, Dan Dumsha (Vancouver Theatresports™ & Queer Prov) happened to be in town on business the very same night...
So much for our safe, soft launch evening of SAMPLER workshops...
What manifested in its stead was the biggest, boldest and ballsiest project Darren Yorke had yet produced, which was fitting for a company as ambitious as Grand Stretch. As we're known to say, its all to play for!
Relying on razor-sharp wit and lightning-fast reflexes, audience suggestions fuelled a rip-roaring evening of improvised theatre, comedy and music, showcasing the improvisational style we aspire to in the first licensed production of THEATRESPORTS™ ever to be staged in Ireland, and the Irish Premiere of Dan Dumsha's Dirty Little Secrets Improv Show.
