Darren Yorke officially launched Grand Stretch
with this Opening Speech on Friday 13th of October, 2017...
Darren Yorke first conceived an evening of 30-minute SAMPLER workshops that would officially launch Grand Stretch. This event was intended to inspire creativity and to embolden recruits for The IMPROV Mind-Set - an introduction to our unique improvisational approach, which is developed over 6 x 3-hour workshops. With The IMPROV Mind-Set scheduled to commence in January 2018, the SAMPLER launch was loosely pitched for late November / early December 2017.
But then, the stars aligned for An Evening of Grand Stretch.
Friday 13th gets a bad rap, but it showed us a great kindness in 2017.
Denise Jones (Vancouver Theatresports™) reached out to say that she, Michael Teigen (Vancouver Theatresports™ & The Comic Strippers), Diana Frances (Vancouver Theatresports™ & The Second City), Duane Keogh (The Town Pants), and Dave Keogh (The Town Pants) would be in Dublin for one night only, on Friday 13th October 2017. Furthermore, as luck would have it, Dan Dumsha (Vancouver Theatresports™ & Queer Prov) happened to be in town on unrelated business that very same night...
So much for our safe, soft launch evening of SAMPLER workshops...
What manifested in its stead was the biggest, boldest and ballsiest project Darren Yorke had yet produced, which was fitting for a company as ambitious as Grand Stretch. As we're known to say, its all to play for!
Relying on razor-sharp wit and lightning-fast reflexes, audience suggestions fuelled a rip-roaring evening of improvised theatre, comedy and music, showcasing the improvisational style we aspire to in the first licensed production of THEATRESPORTS™ ever to be staged in Ireland, and the Irish Premiere of Dan Dumsha's Dirty Little Secrets Improv Show.
