Theatre entertains and educates. Sports will ignite a crowd. TheatreSports™ combines forces to generate ‘heat’ in the seats as the competition fires up performance challenges—spurring teams to take risks, raise their game, and make "Absolute Scenes!" out of audience suggestions.
Our shows feature Team Players who can handle the performances, but can you handle the competition with this rowdy crowd?! Get in on the Action! (And if TheatreSports™ feels like a bit of you, there will soon be more opportunities for newcomers to come and play.)

WE'RE ALL FRIENDS HERE (15 mins)
Before we divide and conquer, we mix up the teams for a few games — a warm-up for ourselves and the crowd, before the real games begin!
THE 10-minute match
A FRIENDLY CHALLENGE (10 mins)
This non-competitive opener gives players a friendly chance to be bold in challenges and play risky scenes with no pressure to settle the score.

ALL OR NOTHING (30 mins)
A challenge is set. Both teams play scenes. And then, they turn to you—their lovely audience—to award 5 points to the scenes you love best.

THE FINAL SCORE (45 mins)
With great power comes great responsibility, as three esteemed Judges are granted exclusive authority to award 1-5 points to each scene.
A History of theatresports™
TheatreSports™ and Maestro™ Impro are licensed show formats created by Keith Johnstone, inherited and ritually performed by Grand Stretch® as Ireland's leading member of the International TheatreSports™ Institute.
Developed in the 1970s with the Loose Moose Theatre Company in Calgary, TheatreSports™ took the world by storm in the '80s and '90s with 150 companies known to be actively in play today. Late to the game, and keen to make up for it, we discovered Vancouver TheatreSports™ in 2014, where Darren Yorke spent two years training and performing in TheatreSports™ as the Education & Outreach Coordinator at The Improv Centre on Granville Island.
TheatreSports™ has been the cornerstone of Grand Stretch® since 2017, and we've led with Keith Johnstone's pioneering Impro methodology to level the playing field, make things happen and raise the game with play-makers of all ages, abilities and backgrounds ever since.
